After multiple episodes of tension, plots and sabotage, The Celebrity Traitors has reached a thrilling finale
Warning: spoilers ahead - This piece reveals key moments from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, viewers witnessed murders, double-crosses, serious side-eye, and an unforgettable incident that pierced all suspense.
Yet on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the first celebrity edition was revealed.
Out of nineteen participants, just a handful remained: Deceivers and loyal players competing for the prize.
Soon, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a surprising outcome that broke the internet and made him tearful.
"This has been destroying me, I'm so sorry," he exclaimed, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been one of the deceivers. "I feel terrible about this."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."
Social media quickly erupted with the news. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," wrote a viewer.
"There could not have been a more iconic ending," stated a different person, while someone else called it "the TV moment of the year."
His chosen charity, a cancer charity, will receive the entire winnings, with the total amount reaching £87,500.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to strategic player was among the most memorable aspects of the series.
But his win still shocked viewers in shock, according to entertainment reporters.
"The thought of him, of all people, executing an expert performance in deceit felt about as likely as him keeping a straight face through his comedy routines."
On subsequent discussions, the other contestants summed up why no one had ever really suspected him.
"Alan could have come down to the morning meal in traitor attire and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. I was too busy laughing," a player said.
"Most people didn't vote for him because how does one vote for a person so loveable?" asked another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the program.
"I'd like to participate once more... I doubt it would be successful a second time!"
The final episode was lengthened to over an hour on the network. It had an unusual opening than typical episodes, as all the celebs were aware who'd make it at the breakfast table.
There was some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as we recapped some moments from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
True to form, Alan Carr provided unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I began this game as something of an anxious mess. I've thrown some really good friends under the bus, I've eliminated national treasures openly. I'm clearly a better liar and player than I thought."
Meanwhile, another contestant noted that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than playing for England", while someone else said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
Early on of the finale, various contestants appeared to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the castle, replacing the previously eliminated style leader.
The winner appeared at the morning meal resembling a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got outstyled by a fellow player's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.
Next up was the challenge, with the remaining contestants boarding a train named - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.
This task saw them destroying portraits of former contestants. Have sympathy for a player who was hit in the head multiple times by the lid of a heavy wooden box.
Soon after, it was time for the elimination discussion.
The deceivers did a pinky promise beforehand, vowing to support each other. "We've progressed significantly, I won't betray him," stated one, while the other simply laughed.
And one did stick to his promise. Yet, managing to stay under the radar for the majority of the competition, the other still got the most votes.
The remaining traitor appeared he was in significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, without direction."
Social media and onlookers were equally disappointed.
"I did NOT want this contestant to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," said an observer.
"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," posted a different viewer.
But there was no time to focus on this departure. Soon, they were at the final stage - this being the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players gathered around the ceremonial fire. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, precisely when it mattered the most, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - following a surprising decision from their partner, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be betrayed at the final moment like that," remarked the eliminated player. Subsequently, it was revealed that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player calls their former ally as a traitor.
Finally, only three contestants were still competing: the last participants.
A contestant, looking incredibly smug, voted to end the game. The same decision was made by a different player, and everything depended on the final participant, who made the identical choice - resulting in the traitor was the winner.
For observers, the moment where remaining contestants consoled the champion was "compelling television". "I anticipate it will be in the running for memorable moment at next year's awards," they said.
Happily, the champion soon recovered from his emotional outburst, and was able to enjoy the moment.
"What a rollercoaster. I was awful at lying, my expressions gave me away and here I am the champion," he said.
And he even made light of that infamous murder - his best friend in an early episode - by reaching over the presenter in the concluding moments and making contact.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The recent episodes of famous people scheming, scheming and the occasional unexpected moments may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually all happen. And we will miss it.
