American Forces Targeted a 'Big Facility' in Venezuela, Trump Stated Without Providing Specifics.

Former President Donald Trump has asserted that US forces hit a "major plant" in Venezuela last week. But, the former president did not specify the exact purpose or site of the strike, and there has been no further clarification from his administration.

Unspecific Remarks Offered During a Talk Show

"We just eliminated – I don't know if you heard – they have a large facility, where the vessels depart from. Recently, we took it out. So we targeted them decisively," Trump allegedly informed GOP supporter and businessman John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Potential Significance of a Confirmed Attack

If a US military action were to be verified, it would constitute the initial attack on Venezuelan soil since the US Department of Defense began a expansion of US military presence in the region to interdict narco-trafficking operations that the former administration alleges operate under the authority of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

This original objective of the military buildup has since morphed into a blockade aimed at stopping the nation's oil exports.

Online Video and Administration Claims

Trump has for some time stated that American military units are poised to expand the military campaign by attacking targets within Venezuela, a move that would in theory require congressional approval.

Online video posted on social media on 24 December purportedly showed an blast reportedly from an industrial area in a Venezuelan state. However, the footage or the site in question has not been confirmed by third parties.

An administration official allegedly told a news network that the president was describing a drug facility in his remarks.

Reaction and Current Military Situation

The Venezuelan government has not commented on the alleged strike the former president described. Furthermore, there have been no independent reports from within the country concerning it.

The buildup of US military in the area – a position some have termed a sea blockade – constitutes the most expansive maritime enforcement action of his time in office.

Administration officials have avoided from calling the operation as a blockade, but have stated that around 15,000 personnel are deployed across the Caribbean and the Gulf, including a carrier strike group, advanced fighter jets, and law enforcement vessels to uphold existing sanctions.
